IL-962
The IL-962 is a Cadet Group within the Air Force Junior ROTC. The IL-962 is located at Rock Island High
School in Rock Island, IL. There the IL-962 teach students discipline, self respect, courtesy, and also aeronautics and
aerospace. Cadets learn the way of the Air Force, and through that discipline. AFJROTC is a great way for students to meet
other students their own age who share the same interests as them.
The Mission of AFJROTC is to build better citizens, not to train officers for the Air Force.
Cadets are encouraged to follow their career interests through Leadership Education.
Academic Scholarship availability for AFJROTC Cadets varies by their field of study, academic
background, and potential, though they are readily available to gradating Cadets. They amount of the scholarships ranges,
but they can vary from partial to full.
There are many opportunities and benefits that come from being an AFJROTC cadet, and they
can be attained by many a child. The IL-962 welcomes readily any student wishing to become a cadet.
The ROTC curriculum and activities challenge the student to elevate and hone self-confidence, self-discipline, and leadership
skills. It consists of formal classroom training (academic and physical exercise) supplemented by orientation trips to military
activities and facilities in the area. Academic studies include military history and military science. Leadership studies
include customs and courtesies of the military, cadet corps activities, study habits, time management, communication skills,
and leadership and management studies. Co-curricular activities include drill team, color guard, etc. Cadets wear the ROTC
uniforms one day per week. Uniforms and materials are provided by the United States Air Force. Cadets are not required
to enlist in the military.
